At last, we are swimming in ice — and it will not break itself

On Wednesday 10 January, it finally happened: a run of freezing days brought ice to the river. The whole entry pool and the entrance to the main Ostravice channel had frozen over. First we had to break the ice; only then could we enjoy a proper wallow in the icy water. We photographed and filmed everything, because you never know when it might be your last chance :-) The water was a lovely 0.0°C.

That is how it should be: a cold-water swimmer is someone who actually goes swimming. Thank you all for coming. Thirty people in the water together for the first time

I counted twice: including Anička and Jarda, there were thirty of us today! We have grown quite a bit since 6 November, when we started with three 😀. More people are joining the post-swim run too, and what began as a necessity is becoming rather good fun, is it not? Keep it up. A message for the swimmer on the opposite bank with his wife and child when we returned from our run in the woods: would you like to join us next time?

A group swim on Monday 17 February 2020

What a day! First, Pavel Neuman came to see us: a cold-water swimmer with 72 years of swimming behind him. He plans to join us in the water another time — a great honour for us. Our young hopefuls Anička and Sofie, aged six, also swam today, alongside around twenty-five adults. It was as busy as Wenceslas Square! Please arrive in time for the photo.

Wednesday swimming: 22 January 2020

Dear swimmers, and potential future swimmers, another entry for the diary: water just below 2°C, air around freezing, and twenty people came to swim — hooray! Both newcomers did brilliantly.
