Thanks to a special exemption, on Saturday we were able to celebrate the end of a successful 2020/2021 season together. Thank you to Michal Ševčík for the photos.
Despite the Covid restrictions, we had met almost continuously since early October, apart from the final few weeks.
Perhaps partly because of government restrictions, far more people than usual tried cold-water swimming. I accompanied almost 150 people on their first dip. Although most people who try it decide it is not for them, many stayed, and 66 of us swam on Saturday. Others could not come because they lived outside the Frýdek-Místek district. I am sorry, but there was nothing we could do: our exemption did not cover that.
Why bring the season to an end?
A break is good. That does not apply to everyone: some enthusiasts move straight from winter swimming into long-distance swimming. For most of us, myself included, however, winter feels long by late March. Stopping at the right time makes us look forward all the more to starting again in autumn.
So, dear friends — both current swimmers and anyone thinking of joining us on 2 October 2021, when the 2021/2022 season begins — enjoy a happy, healthy spring and summer. I look forward to seeing you by the water.
